DAO is looking to commission a digital artist to make work in response to Outside In artists

Closing date: 1 June 2012

Disability Arts Online

Location: South East

Remuneration:£1500 fee for commission

Description:As part of our Diverse Perspectives programme DAO is looking to commission a South East-based digital artist to collaborate with one or two Outside In artists to make a series of short, moving image, digital works to be showcased on the Outside In and Disability Arts Online websites.

We are looking for an artistic response to the work of one or two artists who have submitted galleries to the Outside In website. The work produced could be film, animation, audio or a combination of moving image work, that is aesthetically exciting.

Outside In aims to provide a platform for artists who find it difficult to access the art world either because of mental health issues, disability, health, social circumstance or because their work does not conform to what is normally considered as art. You can find out more about this groundbreaking initiative produced by Pallant House Gallery in Chichester at www.outsidein.org.uk

Our aim is that the resulting piece(s) of digital artwork will encourage people to make art, by providing an exciting response to the Outside In artists technique or creative process.

These works will be shared on both DAO and the Outside In websites in order to give a deeper insight into the artists’ working practices.

The deadline for producing the final artwork would be 1 October 2012, in preparation for showcasing as part of the launch of Outside In at Pallant House Gallery on 27 October 2012.

We are also in negotiation to fund the costs of the touring of the digital artworks as part of the 2013 Outside In exhibitions starting in March 2013 and completing in April 2014.

We are looking for proposals from artists who identify with having an impairment or who consider themselves disabled, who would be keen to liaise with Outside In artists who are interested in having a unique aspect of their artistic process captured for posterity.

DAO will support the digital artist awarded this commission to make contact with the Outside In artist(s) to support the collaboration.

Proposals must include details of:
The style of presentation of the work (eg how it will display)
Accessibility (all video must be subtitled)
Details of previous work
A rough breakdown of costs involved in making the work, including artists

In addition to the fee of £1500 there is a limited amount of additional funds available for access and travel to be negotiated during the commissioning process.

How to apply:
Please send your proposals to trish@disabilityartsonline.org.uk by 1 June 2012. Please put ‘Outside In’ in the subject line

Ryggen døde i Trondheim i 1970.

Office for Contemporary Art Norway Annonserer ‘Peter Watkins: Et Retrospektiv’

7.–14. mai 2012

Office for Contemporary Art Norway
Nedre Gate 7
0551 Oslo, Norway
www.oca.no l info@oca.no

•    Tirsdag 8. mai, 19.00 – Åpent foredrag: ‘Edvard Munch: A Film’s Legacy’
•    Torsdag 10. mai, 18.00 – Visning av The Gladiators (1968) og Evening Land (1976)
•    Friday 11. mai, 18.00 – Visning av The War Game (1965) og Punishment Park (1970)
•    Søndag 13. mai, 16.00 – Visning av La Commune (de Paris, 1871) (1999)
•    Mandag 14. mai, 17:30 – Visning av The Freethinker (1992–94)

Whatever Happened to Sex in Scandinavia? receives Design Prize

Whatever Happened to Sex in Scandinavia?

OCA is pleased to announce the awarding of the publication Whatever Happened to Sex in Scandinavia? within the competition ‘Årets vakreste Bøker’ (‘The Most Beautiful Books of The Year’), organised annually by Grafill – the organisation for Norwegian graphic designers and illustrators. Whatever Happened to Sex in Scandinavia?, designed by NODE Berlin Oslo, received the first prize in the category ‘Facts and Reference / Adult Literature’. According to the jury, the design of Whatever Happened to Sex in Scandinavia? has to be praised for ‘a documentation of an epoch, a theme and a movement with a humorous and unpretentious undertone’. They further add: ‘The choice of a soft cover is untraditional for a reference book that shall be used often and stay in the bookshelf for many years. This makes the book as an even more exiting object. The designer is familiar with the material and has acquired a good balance between pure documentation and essays and photographic references’. In a comment NODE says that ‘there is a lot of work behind the project – both from us, but mostly from OCA’s side. Whatever Happened to Sex in Scandinavia? is a very interesting project with a rich material source. We hope that the book will get the attention it deserves’.

The awarded books will be on view on the 2nd floor of the National Library in Oslo until 12 April. The exhibition will then travel to Grafill’s offices in Rosenkrantz gate 21, Oslo, and will be on display until 27 April 2012.

Whatever Happened to Sex in Scandinavia? is an anthology edited by OCA’s Marta Kuzma and Pablo Lafuente that reflects upon the juncture of the political and the erotic in the 1960s and 70s, in special relation to the image of Scandinavia as a sexually and politically utopic territory during those decades. With a close reading of the cultural and socio-political history of Scandinavia, through the writings of Wilhelm Reich, Herbert Marcuse, Norman O. Brown, Daniel Guérin, Jacqueline Rose and others, and through an examination of the obscenity bonanza that emerged around Swedish film-maker Vilgot Sjöman‘s I Am Curious (Yellow), the publication offers a plethora of historical material and an investigation of the political motivations behind naming a cultural form obscene and pornographic.

The anthology is published by the Office for Contemporary Art Norway and Koenig Books, London, with generous support from Fritt Ord. It can be purchased through OCA’s website and in bookstores internationally.

OCA’s Public Space
From 29 March until 23 June OCA presents PORTRAIT PORTRAIT OF OF A A GENERATION GENERATION by artist and author Matias Faldbakken, curated by Marta Kuzma. In sourcing iconic sculptures produced in the 20th century, the artist essentially de-skills modernist aspirations toward the aerodynamic, the minimal, and the abstract by acrobating revered works of ‘art’ into vessels for intoxication.

Opening Hours: Wed, Fri and Sat: 12:00–16:00, Thu: 12:00-18:00 (closed Friday 6 April)

The cover letter

The cover letter is a social act of courtesy, the initial presentation and as such has this importance. Usually it is accompanied by the curriculum, either responding to a newspaper advertisement, either in a self-presentation or a letter of thanks. The wrapping of the curriculum, and for the sake of academic and professional, that does not fall on deaf ears, we must take care of the details of writing and style
The aim is to attract the attention of the person who reads it, so to consider, on first impression, that the record presented may be capable to cover the job that offers

Types of cards
We will present several examples of letters, then a TYPE MODEL LETTER:

3 cm. Margin                                                        left. 2 cm. Margin / right.

Although the format of the letter can be the same or similar, wording and content must be different in each case.

The cover letter must have quality, must be: SHORT and DIRECTLY.

In general terms must include: reference, address, reason, beliefs, purpose, farewell courtesy, name and full address of the sender. Fortunately there are no rigid rules for the preparation of a letter. This allows the possibility of differentiation between the candidates.

You have to escape the dull letters or empty of content, preparing them differently for each job and each job search system. A letter responding to an ad can not be equal to one that responds to a mailing. You have to write in first person and jam6aacute; s tutear the reader, so far unknown.

We can sort it into three parts: Header, development and completion.

WRITING STYLE
custom:
It is advisable to write a letter for each job applied for, depending on the requirements they ask, to whom it is addressed and the type of company.

The custom make it demonstrates the interest shown and the effort to gather information about the recipient.

Direct brief:
Very clear and short sentences. It must be specific and rigorous in the expression. Avoid negative phrases useless servility

The presentation of the letter is as important as the content of it.
Never send a photocopy of the letter was written, you must send the original.
No larger than a sheet.

The envelope should put as much attention as in the letter, cleaning and data written without erasures or deletions. The name and address must be identical to those written in the letter.

The paper must be good and standard size without any damage.

Generally, this type of letter writing is sent by computer. Sometimes, if the letter is in response to an offer of employment can ask explicitly that you do by hand. This is usually because more information you give yourself the power to make a handwriting analysis. If you handwritten note:

Make sure the lines are straight.
Pen writes with blue black, instead of pen.
Leave wide margins and regular.
The letter should appear cared for, but not decorate too.
The entry must be the one you normally do.

Portfolio – Artists and Designers

The portfolio is the way to be released of all persons trained in art and design areas that require more than a resume to show their creative work and to come into contact – both visually and directly – with people and entities interested in their professional performance.

The portfolio comprises those works and projects already developed and more representative of the creative activity, which have reached maturity and precision sufficient to give a full and reliable picture of true professional work. In this sense, the portfolio can include all kinds of information – whether written, visual or audio – that’s valuable to show that disclosure has been the work as well as comments and criticism that has generated most prominent in the artistic cultural and national and international level.

The portfolio is essential in various circumstances for either:

  • The achievement of a job.
  • The organization of an exhibition.
  • Participation in a contest.
  • Participation in an auction.
  • Participation in a cultural event.
  • Admission to an institution of higher art education.
  • The incursion into the field of teaching.

There is no single presentation of a portfolio, it must conform to the specific activity performed by each person in your field, whether a visual artist, designer, textile artist, a multimedia artist, a musician, a person engaged theater, fashion and other fields of creation.

Aware of the importance of portfolio to your career and your professional life, it begins its development from the early work done by collecting from the beginning all the personal information you are going to have on your work, in order to create a complete personal file of your creative process. This file is saved as a personal memory of the work, and shall include all data related to each piece or photo, which will serve later to know on what date was made, what matter, and so on.

A person may build a new graduate small portfolio (or several, depending on your needs), which may be armed or disarmed multiple times for the occasion. For example, if you are participating in an exhibition hall, wardrobe a portfolio with your resume, slides upon request, technical specifications, a personal commentary of his work, and so on. does go to apply for a scholarship, you must conform to the specifications that the entity assigned to the portfolio and send letters, letters of tutors, etc..

Curriculum

There are many ways to create a resume, but all must try to contain the following information:

  •   Studies Completed or in Process
  •   Group Exhibitions
  •   Solo Exhibitions
  •   Awards and Prizes
  •   Complementary Activities

For example, work as guides in museums and galleries, as assistants to other artists in the area of cultural administration, organization and curation of exhibitions

Samples Art Resume

Collections

Being an artist, including museums, galleries or collectors who have works of artist and location.

 Personal References

If a CV is sent to the achievement of administrative work or a company, etc.. are some personal references, ie the name, title, and telephone number of persons who can provide references.
